Categories are like sections of a newspaper. Tags are like the ingredients of a food dish.
How to add a category to your wordpress blog
To add a category look at the right side of your monitor where you post your updates. Click on "Add New Category" as shown in the picture above. You will then see a rectangle directly below the "Add New Category" words. Enter the name you want to add. Then click the "Add" button. Your new category will be availble!

Add a "Parent Category"
You may want to have a main category with sub-categories within it. You can see in the picture below that I added the sub-category (How To) under the "Wordpress" main category. I will be adding more sub-categories here in the future. The idea is to provide KEYWORDS to describe what is in the post.

How to add a "Tag" to your blog post
Tags are more precise in regard to a particular post. Above the general "Categories" section on the right, look at the "Post Tags" section.
Tags are important to your blog. They help people find your posts. What could be more important than that?
Type the words you want to be keywords and to help people find your post in the future. I added "add, category, tags" to this post. Put a comma after each word. Then click the "Add" button.
You can put a "tag cloud" on your blog to help people find specifics about your post and products. Your post may show up in the main Wordpress page with the help of your tags..
